On Easter Sunday 2012 we received new Bibles into St Thomas'. Every church of course needs Bibles so this might not sound like such a big thing. However, the new church Bibles also marked a change of translation from the New International Version (NIV) which has been used for many years, to the English Standard Version (ESV). The ESV was first published in 2001 so is a very up to date translation. It is marked by beauty of language, accuracy of translation and wealth of available resources. It is an excellent choice for our next phase of life as a contemporary and evangelical church. Read on to find out more about why we've bought new Bibles and why we chose the ESV.

Reading the Bible

The Bible is the most printed and sold book in the world. It is also perhaps the most unread, misunderstood and misquoted...

A,B,C of Jesus

A

Almighty - Jesus is God Almighty, creator of the universe. He's not just some nice bloke from ancient Israel.

B

Baby - He gave up His place in heaven to become a tiny baby and grow into a normal man. God became one of us, to take our place, walk in our shoes and pay the price of our sin.

C

Christ - The greek word for Saviour - Jesus came to save us from ourselves, from our sin, and bring us back into the loving embrace of God.
