Welcome to St Thomas' We would love to give you a warm welcome this Advent time!

John and Sue CoyneExciting news for us all this Christmas time! It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Rev. John Coyne to be the new rector of Aldridge Parish. John and his wife Sue will be joining us sometime early in 2012 to take the helm at Aldridge Parish Church and lead the team across Aldridge parish.

John and Sue have two older children, Allistair and Victoria and two teenage boys, Andrew and Adam.

He has vast experience in ministry ranging from being a training incumbent of his own church, an RAF chaplain, Dean of College at St John’s Theological College Nottingham and Director of Regional Leadership development Advisors at CPAS.

Everyone warmed to John and Sue when they visited us a couple of weeks ago. John spoke at the interview of his heart being in Parish ministry and, after a couple of secret visits to the church and meeting everyone on the visit day, he said that Aldridge had become very special to him and, he used the phrase, had ‘stuck like glue’.

It was fabulous this time round to have 3 extra members to the interview panel representing St Thomas’s, Tynings and The Hothouse as well as the Archdeacon, Chris Sims, John Alderman and the Bishop. As John answered questions and talked about his conviction that God was calling him to parish ministry and specifically Aldridge, we all became more and more excited that the person in front of us was indeed God’s chosen person for Aldridge. It was a unanimous decision by the panel members to appoint John.

Anyway, rather than use our own words we have here a few words from our new Rector which has asked us to read to you all. He has also attached this photo so you can all see what he looks like!!

A message from John and Sue
Hello everybody.  We are delighted that John has been invited to become the new Rector of Aldridge. Meeting the staff team and others our first visit was a real encouragement. At interview last week John had an overwhelming sense of God’s call – fortunately those interviewing him came to the same view!

We come with a deep sense of appreciation for the faithful and fruitful ministry undertaken at Aldridge over many years. We are looking forward to getting to know you all, as together we seek God’s future in each of the churches and in ministry to the parish.

The date of our move and John’s licensing has still to be decided.  Our teenage sons, Andy and Adam will continue their education in Gloucester for the time being.  As the weeks go by we will tell you more about ourselves and our ministry. For now we ask that you will pray for us as we will continue to pray for you.

Christmas Services

This Christmas we have a lot of great services lined up. Come and join us to celebrate the birth of Jesus our Lord and Saviour...

Reading the Bible

The Bible is the most printed and sold book in the world. It is also perhaps the most unread, misunderstood and misquoted...

A,B,C of Jesus

A

Almighty - Jesus is God Almighty, creator of the universe. He's not just some nice bloke from ancient Israel.

B

Baby - He gave up His place in heaven to become a tiny baby and grow into a normal man. God became one of us, to take our place, walk in our shoes and pay the price of our sin.

C

Christ - The greek word for Saviour - Jesus came to save us from ourselves, from our sin, and bring us back into the loving embrace of God.
