Who's Who?

St Thomas' Church thrives on the gifts and talents of many individuals and a vast array of exceptional teams. The life and work of the church is divided into a large number of teams, or core groups and these are all headed up by individuals. We don't think that the ministry here is about those individuals - it's about all of us working together, but as a first point of contact here's some of the people you might want to get to know who represent all that goes on here.

Minister: Rev. Evan Cockshaw

Rev. Evan Cockshaw joined the Aldridge Parish Team taking on leadership of St Thomas' Church in October 2009, coming from a church planting ministry beforehand. His passion is creating a church which welcomes everyone through the doors, whilst changing lives through God's Word preached in a down to earth but Biblical way.

Evan is married to Hilary and they have 3 young children. If you can ever manage to get Evan to stop talking then you might see him enjoying a pint down the pub, watching crime dramas, sci-fi and sport on the telly, going for walks with his family, or gazing at the stars. Evan first trained as an Astrophysicist, before going to Israel, being called into full time ministry and retraining at St John's College in Nottingham.

Administrator: Jean Whitehouse

In 1985 this position was created by the Minister to help alleviate his workload as St Thomas’ had become a thriving church within the community with average weekly attendances of 200+. At the time my youngest child had just started full time education which meant I would have time on my hands and I had been thinking of how I could be more involved with my church. I enquired about the job and unfortunately it had been filled.

But then, 9 years later in 1994 the position became vacant and I was asked by the then current Minister if I would like the position. I actually declined because I had another job at the time and hadn’t thought about leaving.

However, the Lord knew differently and kept telling me that this is what I had applied for all those years ago and that now was the right time. So this led me to change my mind and accept the job of administrator and here I am 14 years later still working in a job I thoroughly enjoy.

Children's & Family Worker: Denise Summers

My family and I have enjoyed worshipping with the Church family at St. Thomas for over twelve years.

I joined the team to serve as Children and Family Support Worker in April 2008 and the part-time role continues to develop and change. I network across a range of different groups: Leighswood School and Children’s Centre, St. Thomas Church Playgroup, Tom’s Toddlers, Footprints and the Hub – all age church in the afternoon. I also offer support to families and individuals as and when it is needed.

It’s all a lot of hard work which requires a big team effort. It can be thrilling and exhausting in equal measure, but there is nothing like it!

This job is very full and very rewarding. Thank you for allowing me to be part of what God is doing here at St. Thomas.

Music: Liz Grace
Liz heads up the music in church ... which is no mean feat when you think about all the different musicians we seem to have here!

Children's & Youth: Kathy Robinson

Kathy has only recently joined St Thomas' but quickly stepped into the position of coordinating the children's work in church. It's a busy and dynamic ministry to which Kathy brings her experiences from mission work overseas and time caring for the needs of a large boarding school down south.

Smallgroups: Julie Fuggle

During the week many of our church members meet in small groups where they can support each other and study the Bible together to apply it to the real world. Julie oversees this work, providing the groups with suitable material to use and also arranging occassional activities and short study courses for people who aren't involved in a small group.

Evangelism: Keith Capp

Keith heads up the evangelism team at ST T's - so if you want to find out more of what we believe then he's a good guy to ask!

Fabric: Derek Peel

Derek says that keeping on top of the building needs of St Thomas' is like painting the Forth Bridge! There's always something that needs doing, and just as you reach the end of the list ... you're back to the beginning again. Day in, day out Derek seems to find something to busy himself or others.

Missions:

St Thomas' has always supported people and organisations committed to the Gospel beyond our own local community.
