Who Is Jesus?

Jesus said: "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE..."
...I have come that you might have life, and have it in ABUNDANCE!... For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life
- Jesus is a man who lived 2,000 years ago. The facts that he existed, taught the things he taught, and did the things he did, as recorded in the Bible are all supported and affirmed by sources outside the Bible. No sensible historian ever questions that there was a man called Jesus who did some amazing things and taught world changing stuff. The real question is not "Did he really exist?" but "Who was Jesus?"
- We say that Jesus is the "Son of God", or "God the Son". What does that mean? Well, it means that Jesus isn't just a man that we find in the history books - it means that Jesus was much much more than that, he was and is actually God too! Take a moment to consider what that means. God! Creator of the universe, source of life, infinite and holy, beyond our ability to understand fully ...so what was he doing wandering about being a man?
- Jesus was in heaven busy being God the Son before he ever came to earth. He came though, that first Christmas time, giving up everything he had in order to identify with us in our humanity. People often say of God "What does He know?" or "Why doesn't He do something about all this suffering?" ... the fact is, He DOES know, and He HAS done something about it - a very BIG something! The trouble is we don't like the way He does things so we still grumble and we still ignore Him. Nevertheless, Jesus came from heaven purely to be a perfect sacrifice for our sins and to teach us the way to God.
In short, Jesus was not just an important figure from history - he is the single most important event of history from any period, and region of the globe. He is from before history - existing with the Father from before the universe began, indeed before the universe was made at His command. He is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, all knees must bow before Him ... and yet He willingly chose to leave the splendour of His majesty in heaven and esperience our pain, our life, our humanity first hand... and then amazingly to deliberately and willingly be executed for us, in our place, for our sins so that we didn't have to be cut off from God any longer.
Jesus? He is quite simply ... AWESOME!
