Giving Pack

The Giving Pack is now ready for everyone to download. If you downloaded the draft version last week please make sure you update with this final version.

It is vitally important that everyone engages fully with the finances of St Thomas' church and with their own relationship to God and money. The Giving Pack is large in that it runs to 22 pages. The whole thing though is highly accessible and should be easy to read for every member of the church. I am a slow reader, a very slow reader, and I can read it through in 20 minutes. Please make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, and sit down and spend some time reading this vitally important document. Thank you!

Just 9 days!

I sometimes wonder at just what people think happens with the money we have as a church. I think there's some who suppose that church is just made of money, because we're part of this HUGE Church of England thing which must be made of money, right? ...er, ...wrong sadly. Then there's those who think that every penny which has ever been given should be stored away somewhere in some huge savings account waiting for that rainy day. And then there's those who understand the reality of what really goes on (which I hope is most of the people at St T's).

Last night we had the AGM of the whole parish in which we had an excellent and detailed report of the parish's finances. It was quite enlightening! One figure stood out from all the rest, namely the number of days which we could stay solvent for if all of our giving dried up overnight. The answer is ... just 9 days!

Wesley Owen to become The Hub

Good News! The Walsall Wesley Owen store at St Paul's in the Crossing in the centre of Walsall has been bought by the staff who run the shop and will reopen shortly as The Hub! This wonderful news sees the continuation of a vitally important outlet of Christian books, music and other resources for local Christians.

We are encouraging members of St Thomas' to really get behind this new venture and make it really fly and grow as a business so that we can ensure easy access for the many thousands of local Christians of great quality Christians resources for life and ministry, and vital opportunity of outreach to the many non-Christians who pop into the shop to seek guidance and support.

Please pray for the staff as they take over the ownership and running of The Hub, and please choose positively to support it by visiting and shopping there. We will hope to restock the church bookstore with products from The Hub when they have this system up and running. If and when that service is available you will be able to support The Hub by buying products at St Thomas' own bookstore.

The New Logo

webmediumlogoOne of the things I noticed about St Thomas’ when I first arrived was that we didn’t have  a logo! There was no clear graphical identity which holds together all the amazing variety of activities which happen here and in the community around here.

St Thomas’ is a church deserving of a great logo which can breed a clear sense of identity throughout all our ministries and instill confidence in the community in connecting with any of the things we are doing as a church.

The need for a good logo is increased as our wider ministry grows. With our sermons now appearing on iTunes and the church website growing clearly we need to create a clear graphical identity which communicates very simply something of who we are in a consistent fashion. A new logo was one of the first things I wanted to achieve, and with the help of Jonathan Whitehouse-Bird our resident professional graphic designer I'm hoping you might like what we've come up with! Read on to find out what it's all about.

Downloads available

In an attempt to streamline the communications within the church we have a members only download area on this website now. In future, minutes, rotas, preaching notes, policy documents and so on will all be available here on this website. You will need to log in to access them though so they will be kept secure. There's not a lot there at the moment, but over time this area of the website will fill up and become a vital resource for us all within the family of St T's.
