Children's Ministry Conference Report

Recently three of our wonderfully talented and generally just wonderful children's workers headed off to sunny Eastbourne for a national conference on Children's Ministry in churches. We got them together to create a podcast on what they learned and what inspired them while they were away. Here's what they said:

Dads & Kids (Wide Awake Club)

What is the Wide Awake Club?
Well, it's a meeting place for dads or grandads and children (0-6yrs), it's a place to play, chat and build friendships. Fun, laughter, banter with loads of noise is the order of the day! Tables, seating and a wide variety of childrens toys & activity games are supplied. Everyone can expect to be pandered to by the team - supplied with copious amounts of percolated coffee (or tea) and squash. Loads of good thick toast and best buy bacon, sausage, egg sandwiches (and to any combination of their choosing) topped with either tomato or brown sauce.

Scouts & Guides

While the Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies and Rainbows aren't run exclusively by St Thomas' church they remain a proud part of our offering to the community and are thriving groups here.

In due course we will have a whole section here on the website devoted to each group - for now let's just say we cater for all age groups throughout the week.

Our uniformed organisations are welcomed into church on the first Sunday of each month for our Parade service.

Uniformed organisations teach vital life skills and give a sense of responsibility and community which are essential to children's development. If you would like to know more about joining or helping with these groups please contact the Church Office on 01922 453942.

This is an all points call out! Prayers needed please ... and some people to step forward!

Our children's and youth work has been steadily growing because of the great work which has been going on. Every month we have about 500 children, young people, and young families to cater for in our mid-week activities, theHub on Sunday afternoons and Sunday Groups on Sunday mornings. Wow! That's quite a lot going on! ...and we only want it to get bigger and better.
